JOCK MAWSON

MASTER MARINER/MARINE CONSULTANT  LONG BEACH/SEATTLE

Jock is a marine insurance and claims specialist. A qualified master mariner with an MA in Maritime Policy, Jock has worked in all facets of the industry, including P&I, legal, broking and underwriting, claims management, expert witness, policy and wording design.

 

Jock spent 13 years at sea, rising to Chief Officer, Master Mariner, sailing on most types of cargo ships. He then served ashore as a claims handler for an International Group P&I club and then later with a British law firm. Jock subsequently took a position as Insurance and Claims manager for a large

oceangoing shipping company. He was later appointed Managing Director for the insurance company subsidiary of a ship operator, rising to Vice President, Insurance & Claims for CP Ships, at the time a top 10 container ship company. As well as designing and placing the Company’s insurance program, Jock led a large claims team in the management of all marine and non-marine claims. Jock attended many significant incidents on site and personally handled large claims to conclusion through arbitration or court proceedings in the UK, USA, Greece, Italy and Australia.

 

Jock has served on many boards and committees, including marine insurance companies, the World Shipping Council, Maritime Law associations, and as the International Chamber of Shipping Delegate to UNCITRAL for the drafting of the new International Carriage of Goods by Sea instrument (The Rotterdam Rules).

As a consultant, Jock has served as an Expert Witness, Visiting University lecturer at MA and MBA levels and has represented the International Chamber of Shipping at the United Nations.
